LILLY, 16
Lilly said that her blouse came from her mom’s closet. The skirt is from Forever 21 and the earrings are Silver Spider, a cute boutique in Mount Vernon, IA. Her mom bought her the vintage boots that she is wearing.
She said that her style inspiration is grandma. Not literally her grandma, but vintage and comfortable styles.
“Today is one of the first days that I’m not wearing a giant sweater.”
KAHLIL, 21
“My current style is similar to the one I had when I was younger, but it’s grown up.”
Kahlil said that his style derives from trying to dress nicely, but still retaining some of personal style from his youth. He is wearing a pair of Levi’s 511, a shirt that he thrifted and Tom Ford glasses. His shoes, which you cannot see due to my short sight behind the camera, are from The Brown Shoe company. To Kahlil, its more about style over fashion.
SARA, 26
Sara was another gem from C2E2. What caught me first was her hair, which she did herself (the cut and color). Her undershirt is from a Goodwill in LA. Her denim shirt is second hand from LA as well, with a necklace from a jewelry trade show. Sara was also wearing a pair of TOMS, a project she said she can get behind from a semi-political standpoint.
She said she pulls a lot of her style from European and Mens fashion and celebrities such as Erin Wasson. Sara also said a huge contributing factor to her style is trying to find a balance of being comfortable, but also being able to wear things that are flattering, so as to avoid looking frumpy.
LYDIA, 19
Lydia was a treasure I stumbled upon at Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo, or C2E2, this past weekend. While I myself was dressed in costume I spotted her, walked up to her in my spandex suit, and asked if she would let me take her picture for my blog. She graciously said obliged, whilst being coy.
Her tank is from Victoria’s Secret, a present from her mom. The harem pants are Forever21 and her bag and belt are from Goodwill in California. She said her inspiration for her style depends on her mood, the music she is listening to or lipstick.
“Lipstick is really big for me right now.”

This past weekend I spent my time with a ton of nerds and had the BEST roommates that made it so much more enjoyable. This past weekend was C2E2.
So, this is a special post. Instead of capturing the unique styles of Iowa City, I captured some of the unique costumes of Chicago Comic and Entertainment Expo.

When I asked Maggie about her influences for her style she told me that she studied abroad in Switzerland. She said that people in Switzerland like to wear neutral, earthy colors. She also added that she doesn’t look for outfits, but looks for pieces. Her logic behind what she wears is that she wants things that are going to last her a while, so she won’t have to buy as often.
Her boots are from Switzerland, a store called Max Shoes. The jacket and backpack she is wearing are vintage pieces she thrifted.
